Ligament Filler vs Thread Lift: Which Lifts Better? (2026)
By Dr. IM JUNHYUNG · Updated
At a glance
| Ligament filler | Reinforces support · immediate · dissolvable HA · a few days of swelling |
| Thread lift | Repositions tissue · immediate · 3–7 days swelling, 1–2 weeks tightness |
| Fly home after | Filler: 1–2 days · Threads: 5–7 days recommended |
| Combine? | Often — sequence decided at consultation |
The core difference
Filler adds support from underneath; threads pull tissue in a direction. If the problem is lost volume at the anchor points, filler fits. If tissue has slid and is heavy, threads fit better.
Recovery and travel
Ligament filler usually means a few days of swelling or bruising. Thread lifts can mean a week of swelling and tightness when opening the mouth, so we recommend 5–7 days before flying.
Longevity
Both depend on materials and the individual. Threads dissolve over months; firm HA placed deep often lasts well. Neither is permanent.
Combining them
When support is lost and tissue is also heavy, combining makes sense. The order matters — we plan it so one doesn’t undermine the other.
FAQ
Which is safer?
Both are safe in experienced hands. Filler carries vascular risks; threads carry risks of dimpling or extrusion.
Which is better for a short trip?
Ligament filler, because recovery is shorter.
