Duotite vs Ultherapy: What’s Different and Who Each Suits (2026)
By Dr. IM JUNHYUNG · Updated
- Ultherapy Prime treats at 4.5, 3.0 and 1.5 mm with live imaging; Duotite treats at 4.5 and 3.0 mm from one DuoCare cartridge.
- Both are usually back to normal the same day, and both are rated 3 out of 5 for discomfort after numbing.
- Ultherapy typically lasts 6–12 months; Duotite 3–6 months. Both vary by person.
- Duotite is ₩270,000 for 300 shots (+10% VAT). Shot numbers can’t be compared across the two devices.
- Neither comes sealed for each patient — the shot counter is what gets checked with you, before and after.

Same principle: heat at a set depth
Both devices are focused ultrasound, often called HIFU. The handpiece converges ultrasound energy at a fixed depth under the skin and creates small heat points there without cutting the skin. The tissue contracts, then rebuilds collagen over the following months — which is why some firmness can show early while the main change takes weeks.
The deepest line on both sits at 4.5 mm, the level of the SMAS: the fibrous layer that holds the face up and that a surgeon tightens in a facelift. So this isn’t a contest between a lift and an imitation of one. They are two tools of the same kind, built for slightly different jobs.
What Ultherapy Prime adds
A third depth. Besides 4.5 mm for the SMAS and 3.0 mm for the deep dermis, Ultherapy Prime treats at 1.5 mm, the superficial dermis — useful when fine, crepey skin sits on top of the sagging.
Live imaging. The transducer shows the layers on screen, so we can confirm the layer before each line and keep energy off bone. On faces where the layers are thin or uneven, this is the part that matters most.
Clearance and duration. Ultherapy is FDA-cleared for lifting the brow, the neck and the skin under the chin, and for improving lines on the chest. A session takes about 60–90 minutes, and results usually last 6–12 months, so most people repeat it about once a year.
What Duotite does well
Duotite is a focused-ultrasound device made in Korea by Viol Medical and approved by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Its DuoCare cartridge switches between 4.5 mm and 3.0 mm without a cartridge change, so both layers are covered in one session.
It is quick — about 20–30 minutes for 300 shots, after numbing cream for about 30 minutes — and it costs less: ₩270,000 for 300 shots, plus 10% VAT. Results build over one to three months and typically last three to six, so it is repeated more often: every three to six months if you want to keep the effect.
The DuoCare cartridge we use has no 1.5 mm depth, and Duotite isn’t our answer for heavy sagging. We use it where its strengths count: early sagging, upkeep between bigger treatments, and a first try at focused ultrasound.
How we choose
| If this sounds like you | We usually start with |
|---|---|
| Jowls, a blurred jawline or loose skin under the chin | Ultherapy Prime — the deepest line has to land precisely, and imaging helps |
| Early softening you want to keep in check | Duotite |
| Ultherapy in the past year, and you want to keep the result | Duotite as upkeep, three to six months later |
| Your first focused-ultrasound treatment, or a tighter budget | Duotite, to see how your face responds |
| A slim face with little fat | Deep ultrasound used sparingly, if at all — often Sofwave instead |
| Thin, crepey skin more than sagging | Neither first — Thermage FLX or Sofwave usually suits better |
These are starting points, not a diagnosis. At consultation we check skin thickness, the depth of sagging and facial fat in person. If neither device will help much, we say so.
Comparing prices fairly
Per session, Duotite costs less. But it is repeated more often, so compare what each costs over a year for the result you want, not just per visit.
Don’t compare shot numbers across the two devices either. Each device counts in its own unit, so 300 shots on one isn’t 300 on the other. A total also tells you little without areas and depths — a useful plan reads like “4.5 mm — jawline; 3.0 mm — cheeks”, with shots for each. Our guide to checking shot counts in Korea explains what to ask.
The counter, checked with you
Neither device uses a part that arrives new and sealed for each patient. Ultherapy transducers carry a set number of lines that the device reads; the Duotite cartridge is used across sessions and has a shot counter. So the thing to check is the counter: the number at the start, the number at the end, and the difference written on your record.
At Taut, the plan — device, depth, area and shots — goes on your paper record before we start. When we finish, the counter is checked with you, and the doctor who treated you signs the record.
Can you combine them?
Yes, but not usually on the same area on the same day: stacking two focused-ultrasound devices on one spot adds heat without adding much lift. The common pattern is Ultherapy about once a year, with Duotite as upkeep in between.
What does combine on the same day is a treatment that works on a different layer — Thermage FLX for skin firmness, for example — planned by layer so no spot is overloaded. That is the idea behind our Layer Lift.
Aftercare and risks
Both are usually back to normal the same day. Redness, swelling or tenderness are possible, and after Ultherapy mild tenderness can last a few days. Temporary numbness, tingling or bruising can occur; burns are rare. Contact us right away if anything feels unusual.
Avoid saunas and alcohol for about a week after either. Most people fly the next day. Our guide to jjimjilbang, sauna and alcohol after treatment lists the rules for each treatment.
We wait, or choose something else, in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, with infection or an open wound in the area, with a tendency to keloids, or with recent filler or threads in the same place — the timing is discussed at consultation.
FAQ
Is Duotite the same as Ultherapy?
No. Both are focused ultrasound, but Ultherapy Prime adds live imaging and a 1.5 mm depth. Duotite is Korean-made, treats at 4.5 and 3.0 mm from one cartridge, takes less time and costs less.
Which lasts longer?
Ultherapy — typically 6–12 months, against 3–6 months for Duotite. How long yours lasts depends on your skin, your age and the area treated.
Which hurts more?
Both are rated 3 out of 5 after numbing. Deeper lines can feel sharp along the jawline and near bone. If you are worried about pain, let us know beforehand. Besides numbing cream and cooling, we can use painkillers, anesthetic injections or sedation, depending on the treatment, to manage pain first.
Is Duotite a good first lifting treatment?
Often, if the sagging is early. It is quick, costs less and is usually back to normal the same day, so you can see how your face responds before committing to more.
Can I have Duotite between Ultherapy sessions?
Yes — that is one of the main ways we use it, usually three to six months after Ultherapy, depending on how your skin looks.
How much is Duotite at Taut?
₩270,000 for 300 shots, plus 10% VAT. Prices are the same for every nationality.
Can I fly the next day?
Usually yes. Both are typically back to normal the same day.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. We check the depth of sagging, skin thickness and facial fat in person, and we never ask you to decide on the day. Bookings for international visitors open in December — message us your Seoul dates now.
